No matter what trimester you’re in, you can implement these tips:
1. Avoid scans and request a pat down. I find that avoiding these and requesting a patdown is a good peace of mind.
2. Walk a lot & stretch before boarding. It can help release and relax the muscle, with blood flow and prevent future aches and pains post flight.
3. Compression socks. These help increase circulation and reduce the risk of swelling, deep vein thrombosis and clotting which you are more prone to get while flying pregnant.
4. Seated mobility stretches before and during the flight to help with mobility, posture and improved circulation too.
5. Stay extra hydrated & take electrolytes before and during the flight. Dehydration can happen more easily on air (again, extra especially when pregnant) and, it can reduce blood flow to the uterus.
6. EMF blanket. A way to reduce emf exposure while flying. Although emissions are everywhere, when flying high in the sky we are at increased risk for exposure. By suing a shielding blanket you’ll protect your body and baby from the multiple sources of EMF radiation and keeps you warm!
7. Walk and stretch through the flight. Get up for 3-4min every 30min to help keep blood flowing and in the seat, flex and extend the ankles to boost circulation and help prevent blood clots.
8. Wear comfortable loose clothing.
9. Bring better option snacks like hard boiled eggs, nuts, fried fruit, fresh fruit, hummus dip, dark chocolate, cheese and crackers, carrots and such.10. And anti-nausea medicines or b6 if you’re still nauseous.
11. Wash your hands frequently.
12. Elevate feet 10min at your destination.
And finally, regarding WHEN to fly: The second trimester is the best time to fly imo. You’re likely to be over morning sickness and more extremely, have a more comfortable belly, and more energy too. I personally don’t fly after 32 weeks because i get so uncomfortable. But you can, just make sure you ask your OB/midwife!Save this for later!!
