13h Flight Tips with my 4 & 6 Year Olds

Updated: Aug 5

BCN —> LAX 13h daytime flight is no joke. But you'd think a 13h daytime flight with littles while pregnant would be a miserable journey but to be honest it was smooth, easy and comfortable with LEVEL AIRLINES.

Everything that helped:

1. Get to airport at least 3h prior, walk around the airport nonstop, stretch with the littles and board last to avoid extra time on the plane (if you need overhead compartment space have one of the parents go in alone to secure that while other is out with kids). Don’t bring or don’t use a stroller at airport let them get their wiggles out.

2. Eat a good meal before boarding. No candies and added sugars. Grab snacks from airport to bring on board. You’ll never have too many snacks w kids on a 13h flight. Bring their water bottles too to avoid spills.

3. Be super prepared with all the kids gear: I mean kid headphones (plane ones will fall from their ears), plane beds (make sure your airline approves), blankets, mini pillows, games, activities, developmental app on their iPad / kid tablet…. And always bring NEW activities so they are excited! Tap here to shop it all.

4. Pick an airline that will provide comfort: tons of entertainment for everyone in the family in their private TVs, lots of food options you can pre-select before boarding, lots of added snacks and meal you can purchase on board too (more options than just candy bars), to name a few. And that provides full high speed wifi during the whole flight (was a life saver for me).

5. Look for the family lines available at most European airports at least to skip all security lines. And allow them to walk and run and play the whole airport time to ensure they'll want to sit on board.

6. Bring kids sugar free magnesium (natural vs melatonin which is a synthetic hormone) so they can have a faster, deeper more relaxed sleep even if it’s at the tail end of the flight (life saver so they can be awake when they land, through customs, grab bags, get on shuttle & car ride. And once home everyone can go to sleep at same time and avoid jet lag completely
